The Fantasy Index exists to answer the questions fantasy readers actually search for: is this book worth reading, what order should I read a series in, what should I read next, and is a series finished yet.

Rather than collecting star ratings for thousands of titles, the site focuses on a smaller, connected set of books, series, and authors — each with a short, scannable entry: a plain-language verdict, who the book suits, reasons you might skip it, and a scorecard covering worldbuilding, characters, pace, magic, romance, darkness, and complexity.

How entries are built

Every book page links to its author, its series, relevant reading-order guides, and similar books, so the site works as a connected reference rather than a pile of isolated posts. Factual details — publication dates, series status, upcoming releases — are checked against publisher and author sources and marked with a last-updated date.

Editorial independence

Scores and notes reflect editorial judgment, not sponsorship. Some links on the site are or will be affiliate links — see the affiliate disclosure for details — but affiliate relationships never influence which books are covered or how they are scored.
